Cathy Burke

Cathy Burke’s work focuses on the parallels found in nature and mortality. She explores the similarities between decay and renewal, which occur in both the landscape and genealogy.

Growing up in an ever-changing countryside that passed through several generations of Burke’s family,  she is connected to the furrows, drills and trees which bear tangible links to her ancestors. This land is constantly undergoing change and continually returning to the same. The final work is finished with detailed and textured glazes to emulate rusts and lichens, referencing decay and renewal.

Cathy Burke graduated from National College of Art & Design in 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Ceramic Design. Previous to this she completed a HND Amenity Horticulture in 2000 and this botanical influence can still be seen in her work today. She is now based in Co. Wicklow.
