Debbie Paul

Debbie Paul creates jewellery and sculpture, mostly in metals, ranging from miniature objects to room-size installations. Captivated and inspired by nature, Paul is particularly drawn to trees and plant life. She observes the minute details of budding and sprouting plant forms, and translates them in an abstract way into her own distinctive sculptural language.

Paul’s current collection is informed by the contrasts at the heart of her practice: the measured is juxtaposed with the experimental, the robust with the graceful, and textured surfaces with clean, uncluttered line. Each piece is characterized by Paul’s delicate style, and each displays a deceptive simplicity of form, achieved through Paul’s disciplined approach and attention to detail. In this work, Paul responds to the variety and beauty of the natural world and highlights its subtle and often overlooked qualities.

Paul graduated from the University Of Ulster, Belfast in 1998. She opened the Debbie Paul Gallery in 2008 to promote contemporary concept-driven objects and to provide insight into the art practice behind them.
