Deirdre Rogers

Deirdre Rogers creates a range of work including sculptures, wall pieces, murals and windows in glass and enamel. Drawn to the translucency and the natural qualities of the material, Rogers uses subtle tones and muted imagery to imbue her pieces with a sense of stillness. Usually beginning from sheet glass, she manipulates the surfaces using etching and sandblasting to create texture and to capture light and shadow.

Rogers is very interested in the creative process and regularly works with schoolchildren, finding energy and inspiration in their enthusiasm to take part. She produces work in small and large scale. Her larger works are made up of smaller components, with each piece at once an independent work and an integral part of the whole, with an important role in generating the overall tone and composition.

Rogers graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 1994 with a BA in Craft, specialising in Glass. She later travelled to Orrefors Glaskolan in Sweden where she completed a post-graduate course. She set up her own contemporary glass studio in 1996 under the name Various Vessels. She is currently based in Co. Meath.
