John Galvin
John Galvin specialises in bespoke furniture and lighting. His work brings together traditional cabinet making methods, contemporary design aesthetics and high quality craftsmanship.
With a focus on sustainable materials, Galvin works with a range of Scottish and international hardwoods, including American black walnut, elm, mahogany, and the rare purpleheart wood. His current collection includes the Manolo lounger, inspired by the work of chair designers Hans J. Wenger and Finn Juhl, and shoe designer Manolo Blahnik. It features a double beveled seat, with hand-carved twisted detailing on the splayed back legs, mirrored on the front legs. The chair incorporates five different jointing techniques, so that there is not a single 90-degree angle in the entire piece. Brass pins are used to give the chair increased rigidity.
Originally from Ireland, John Galvin is now located in Glasgow’s west end.
