Lorna Boyle is an Irish designer and maker based in London, UK. Her work questions traditional ideas of value and preciousness, unpicking and critiquing social norms, often in a humorous way. Boyle also enjoys experimenting with unusual materials and finding new ways of fabricating beautiful objects. She graduated from Goldsmiths University in 2015 with a master’s degree in Design Critical Practice having previously completed a degree in Craft Design: Jewellery and Metals from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, receiving first class honours for her thesis and jewellery collection.
“Using the overlooked and mundane aspects of our natural and urban landscape as inspiration, I combine found objects, gemstones and electroformed tin foil to create beautifully textured and deceptively light metamorphic-like wearables. I electroform in silver and incorporate rough gemstones to compliment the texture of the foil. My work aims to challenge the senses, as well as perceptions of what is to be considered precious. My jewellery range includes earrings, rings, bangles, neckpieces, pendants and brooches.
