Peter Young
Peter Young designs architectural stained glass panels and smaller scale exhibition pieces and lightboxes. He is drawn to the medium for its richness of colour, luminosity and optical depth.
Young strives to achieve a meaningful and complementary integration between his glass pieces and their architectural setting. His recent work includes collaborative projects with primary school communities in Wexford, Dublin and Kerry, for which the children’s narrative drawings and paintings were interpreted in stained glass artworks for the schools.
Young’s process begins with sketches and visual research. His drawings are finely worked using etching and painting processes applied to handmade or machine rolled glass. In this way, he achieves modulations of tone, light and texture, integrating the lead lines and bringing the narrative to life.
Young holds an advanced Diploma in Visual Communication Design from the College of Marketing and Design in Dublin, finishing in 1985. He went on to take a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Stained Glass Studies under Professor Amal Ghosh at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London from 1987–9.
