Of Clay and Wattles Made

Work made in response to Yeat's 'Lake Isle of Inisfree' from a collaborative project with Olwen Fouere and Mike Bunn - lambskin gilet, lambskin neckpieces, stretch leather leggings, long sleeved top and gloves. Made using traditional and modern leather working techniques.

The Ancients

The Ancients

Leather Cape, coat and accessories - made in response to Yeat's poetry and the Sligo landscape using Japanese superfine leather, merino lambskin, toscana lambskin and stretch leather. Made using traditional and modern leather working techniques.
Photographer: Mike Bunn

A Coat

This piece was created in response to WB Yeats poem 'A Coat'. The skins retain their natural lines as in image number 2 but in this piece there is a literal reference to the poem: the title is inserted and raised on the back panel. It is a high collared coat with a generous wrap. Also worn with stretch leather leggings. Made using traditional and modern leather working techniques.

Roisin Gartland

Roisin Gartland’s practice straddles the disciplines of fine art and design with the primary material of leather. She uses pattern formation & transformation as a method to investigate issues, to search for answers and to reach new pathways and realisations that open onto further investigation: somewhat like a feedback system, continually looping but evolving with each circuit.

Transposing serial production processes guides Gartland on journeys that are both familiar and strange at the same time: There is a rhythm in repetition that usually leads to strings of ideas, connecting memories and associations. Her work evolves from these elements, capturing, holding and scrutinising them when they appear.
