Jennifer Hickey

Jennifer Hickey was born in Dublin and currently lives and works in the city. She graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2002 and subsequently went to live and work in St.Ives, Cornwall. Following an extended time there, she returned to Dublin to set up a studio.

Artist’s Statement: I am drawn to the beauty and subtlety of the natural world. Themes of fragility, ephemerality and translucency are central to my work. The rituals of making, the physical rhythms, the process and time involved are very important aspects of my practice. The natural properties of my primary materials porcelain and bone china demand particular discipline and delicacy that are a necessary component of the finished piece. Each sculpture is made from ceramic pieces that are hand sewn together to create larger sculptural forms.
